My score is an 8 or 9 out of 10. I don't know if some issues were of the time but if it isn't than an 8, but if it is, it's a 9.
I love the game. If you have music, podcasts, audiobooks, or whatever else I can't think of, this game is a match made in heaven to drown out the silence. I finished the game in 21 hours. I'm not a completionist, but I like to get close to it for my first play-through, which is needed for some games. I recently played Horizon: Forbidden West and I enjoyed the side quest mostly, which they intertwine with the main story. It took me at least 70+ if not more to finish the game, which I think was mostly because of the side quests and other objectives. When I played Horizon: Zero Dawn I did the same thing as Forbidden West, which made the game boring. So, I focused on the main story and I fell back in love with that game, unlike Forbidden West. Sometimes these games are bloated with side missions, and I get one aspect of it which is to put more value in the game by adding smaller missions but when playing Borderlands, which had pointless side missions, it wasn't overwhelming and sometimes that could be the best approach for some games. In my opinion, the Horizon series could benefit from cutting off the fat. Also, what maybe games back then did which I'm not sure if that was the norm, but Borderlands didn't have like these multiple objectives that have multiple branches of side missions. This game is simple and in 21 hours, other than the side missions, respected my time. Some games should be straight to the point and not these different forks to pointless missions, upgrades, and whatever else that could extend your time in an area that should get an hour of your time or less not 5 or 6 hours. This game could have been perfect if they had hindsight of future game development because some things were annoying and I'm not sure if it was limitations or the progressive systems games back then might have abided to. But those little things about the games don't ruin what it is. Pew-pew. It could be tedious at times but the game and why everybody fell in love with it overshadowed those moments. Some games need to go back to the basics instead of adding all this filler. If you haven't played the game and want to get lost in some tunes, podcasts, or audiobooks while being entertained with hoarding billions of guns, come get you sum, borderlands.
